Pregnancy unfolds in seasons. Doctors may call them trimesters, but to a mother’s heart, each stage is its own chapter, filled with emotion, transformation, and expectation. When I fell pregnant with our second child, I found myself deeply aware of this truth. What began as a search for a baby name soon revealed how naming, whether a child or a baby brand, holds the power to shape a legacy. Naming our son felt daunting. However, I knew exactly where to turn for peace and clarity in making the decision, to the One who gives life. Still, I searched and read many baby name books, pondering on the true meaning and significance of a name.

Around the seventh month into my pregnancy, I was woken one night with a clear thought in my heart: “He is Andrew. His name is Andrew.” “Andrew!” I thought. “No way! There are already so many Andrews in the family. My child will not be just another one of them.” It took me two weeks after his birth to come to a place of peace. I realised I could not fight the call of God on our son’s life. If the Creator called him by name, why would we not name him Andrew? Biblically, Andrew means “man” or “manly.” It is often interpreted as strong, courageous, or warrior-like. That is no small thing to speak over your child for the rest of their life. A name is more than a label; it is a declaration. It carries meaning, identity, and legacy.

Choosing the name for our baby brand wasn’t taken lightly either. Fern & Feather Baby Co., our faith-inspired baby store, was born after the arrival of my gorgeous grandson. My daughter and son-in-law, first-time parents, living far away from home, found themselves navigating the early days of parenthood on a different continent. With no nearby family support, they faced many challenging moments alone. That is when the vision for Fern & Feather began to grow. I dreamed of creating a nurturing space that could offer the warmth, guidance, and encouragement of a mother’s heart, just like a loving online baby shop should. There are many expert-driven websites filled with medical information. They are helpful, but sometimes, what you really need is not just advice; you need understanding. The kind you would get from a mother, a grandmother, a midwife or an aunt. Someone who will listen, care, and reassure you.
